TMDA ยท TBS conformity ยท Import duty guidance
Tanzania is a growing East African market with strong public-sector and donor-funded demand. Medical devices are regulated by the Tanzania Medicines and Medical Devices Authority (TMDA), with product standards supported by the Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS).
Medical devices require TMDA registration before commercial import. The importer of record in Tanzania holds the registration and any import permit. SWIFTSKY provides the technical and certification documentation required for the application.
Typical documentation required from SWIFTSKY per product line:
Honest timeline note: First-time TMDA product registration commonly takes 3โ6 months. The registration is the buyer's responsibility to hold before commercial import. We supply all documentation. We do not promise instant clearance.
Tanzania operates a Pre-Shipment Verification of Conformity (PVoC) programme on behalf of TBS for regulated imports. Where medical consumables fall under mandatory standards, a Certificate of Conformity may be required at port. SWIFTSKY's pre-shipment inspection by SGS or Intertek supports this where applicable.
