NAFDAC ยท SONCAP ยท SON ยท Import duty guidance
Nigeria is one of Africa's largest markets for medical consumables. The regulatory framework is administered primarily by NAFDAC (National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control) and SON (Standards Organisation of Nigeria) for SONCAP certification.
Medical devices imported into Nigeria require NAFDAC product registration. The importer of record (your company in Nigeria) holds the registration, not the exporter. SWIFTSKY provides the technical documentation required for the application.
Typical documentation required from SWIFTSKY per product line:
Honest timeline note: First-time NAFDAC product registration takes 3โ9 months. It is the buyer's responsibility to hold the NAFDAC number before commercial import. We supply all documentation. We do not promise instant clearance.
Products subject to SON mandatory standards โ which includes many medical consumables โ require a Product Certificate (PC) and a Conformity Certificate (CoC) before clearance at Nigerian ports. SONCAP is administered by SGS or Intertek on behalf of SON.
SWIFTSKY's pre-shipment inspection by SGS or Intertek covers the SONCAP assessment simultaneously, where applicable โ reducing cost and delay.
